Here are two different breakfasts I ate this week. These meals are meant for easy digestion, as per food combining principles (more later on that). I am always looking for creative ways to eat my venison… and a three egg omelet is a tasty option for breakfast.

The “carb” breakfast.

This “sprouted” grain toast with peanut butter is one of my staples. Grains and peanuts (peanuts are legumes), are an excellent combo to make a full protein and this special bread is actually a full protein all by itself. The bread is Food for Life’s Ezekiel bread. There are other brands of sprouted grain bread, but Ezekiel is my favorite. So what’s so special about this bread?

Ezekiel 4:9 products are crafted in the likeness of the Holy Scripture verse Ezekiel 4:9:

“Take also unto thee wheat, and barley, and beans, and lentils and millet, and spelt and put them in one vessel…” Ezekiel 4:9

It’s a combination of 6 grains and legumes:

  • Source of Complete Protein – Rated 84.3% as efficient as the highest source of protein (comparable to that of milk or eggs)
  • Contains 18 Amino Acids – Including all 9 essential amino acids
  • Increased Digestibility – Sprouting breaks down
    starches in grains into simple sugars so your body can digest them easily.
  • Increased Absorption of Minerals – Sprouting breaks down enzyme inhibitors, so your body can more easily absorb calcium, magnesium, iron, copper and zinc.
  • Increased Vitamin C – Sprouting produces vitamin C.
  • Increased Vitamin B – Sprouting increases the vitamin B2, B5 & B6.
  • Great source of Fiber – Combining sprouted grains and legumes gives a good amount of natural fiber in each serving.

The peanut butter brands I eat also vary, but I stick with the all natural peanut butter you must stir – usually organic.

Life’s too short to eat bad bread and sugary, oily peanut butter. Bread is the staff of life, so I try to eat the best, if possible.

The “protein” meal.

This three egg omelet was cooked in butter and made with steamed spinach (fresh spinach microwaved with water), venison pan-fried in olive oil with Italian seasoning and then marinated artichoke hearts from a jar were added last. Sounds fancy? It’s more simple than fancy. Just basic, wholesome ingredients. This omelet is not combined with toast or hash browns to keep it a properly combined meal of protein plus vegetable.

Of course these meals are not just for breakfast. Any time of day will do.

Food Combining

If you are not familiar with “food combining”, the principle for easy digestion is this: eat a lot of vegetables, don’t mix proteins and starches (carbs), and only eat fruit by itself. Sounds simple? It’s harder than it seems. Especially when everyone else around you is eating ham sandwiches, milk and cereal or pizza. But the effort is worth it. The combinations mean quick digestion, no brain fuzz after a big meal and an easier way to lose weight if you want to. I’d like to think this healthy way of eating, when it includes a lot of vegetables, will help us avoid modern diseases as well. I am hedging my bets and hoping the odds will be in my favor.
